Valetta is one of the most concentrated historic areas in the world, and even with just a few hours, there is plenty to see and do in the port city. The fortified city is a UNESCO World Heritage Site with views across the Mediterranean on three sides.
The Capital of Malta boasts one of Europe’s grandest harbors, the Valletta Port, and welcomes up to a million cruise ship tourists every year. The city is home to several significant historical buildings, including the inquisitor's palace, St John’s Co-Cathedral, and the Manoel Theater.
The Port of Valletta Malta is in the heart of the city, making it easy to get out and explore even if you only have a few hours to spare. There are currently seven ship births at the Malta cruise port, all located about 15 minutes walk from the city center.
The port is in the city of Valetta, so many of the best attractions are within walking distance. The Grand Harbour, Pinto Wharf, Lascaris War Rooms, and St John’s Co-Cathedral can all be reached on foot in just a few minutes.
However, the area immediately around the port can get busy, especially at the height of summer. If you’re looking to escape the crowds, jump in a taxi and head towards the Blue Grotto or one of the local beaches.

Considered one of the best museums in Malta, St John’s Co-Cathedral was built between 1573 and 1578. The cathedral is just a three-minute walk from the Valletta Cruise Ports and is home to nine chapels, an impressive collection of art, and two large bell towers.
Considered one of Europe’s most beautiful harbors, the Grand Harbour is home to some of the city’s most impressive historical monuments. Free to explore and just steps from the cruise port, a stroll around the harbor is a great way to get to know Valletta. Don’t miss the Xatt Lascaris, Fort Saint Elmo, or the French Creek.
The National Museum of Archaeology Valletta is home to some of the Maltese Island’s most impressive artifacts, dating back to the Neolithic Period (5900 – 2500BC). The museum is just a couple of minutes walk from the cruise port.
