How to Get from Airport to Lisbon Cruise Port

Published on Sat Nov 18, 2023

Lisbon International Airport is the closest airport to Lisbon Cruise Port and it’s possible to reach the port via taxi, private shuttle, metro, and bus. However, not all of these services operate directly to Lisbon port, and it may be necessary to transfer in the city centre to reach your destination.

Where is the Cruise Port in Lisbon

Lisbon Portugal cruise port is located on the Tagus River along Avenida Infante Dom Henrique in the city’s Alfama district. On approach or departure by ship, you’ll see the Cristo Rei statue, similar to Christ the Redeemer in Brazil, the famous suspension bridge and Monument to the Discoveries, dedicated to Portugal’s intrepid explorers. The cruise port is also close to many of the capital’s most iconic historic landmarks including Arco da Rua Augusta and 12th century Lisbon Cathedral.

The port caters to almost half a million passengers a year with four cruise docking areas in total – Santa Apolónia (TPSA & TPSAJ), Alcântara (TPA), Roche Conde d’Óbidos (TPR3) and the new quay at Jardim do Tabaco (JTAB 4) which is nearest the city centre - just 15 minutes walking distance.

The major cruise liners currently utilising Lisbon cruise port include Celebrity, AIDA, Costa, MSC, Royal Caribbean, Cunard, Princess, P&O (UK), Fred Olsen, and Holland America. Several Duoro River cruises also arrive and depart from here.

How Far from Lisbon Airport to Cruise Port

The distance from Lisbon International Airport to cruise port is nine kilometres, with a journey time of between 20 and 30 minutes depending on your chosen mode of transport. If travelling via public transport to Lisbon city centre, remember to allow additional time for your onward journey to the cruise port.

Luggage at the Lisbon Cruise Port

It’s worth considering when arriving and departing Lisbon cruise port, that it’s not possible to store luggage for long periods of time. The checked baggage services are only available two hours before sailing time, according to the major cruise companies. However, reasonably priced, day storage facilities are available across Lisbon city centre, should you wish to explore the city before your cruise ship departs, or if you have time before returning to the airport.

Transportation from Airport to Lisbon Cruise Port

Cruise liners operating under the Carnival group of companies provide a Lisbon cruise port shuttle transfer from the airport to Lisbon port. This service can be booked by guests two days prior to their sailing date and the cost is €30 one way.

If this is not applicable, private taxis cost €30-40 one way, depending on the vehicle size required.

Lisbon Airport also has a Metro station with connecting services to the cruise port, transferring at Oriente, then continuing on to Santa Apolónia. If your ship is departing from Jardim do Tabaco Quay, it’s possible to walk from Santa Apolónia in under 10 minutes. A single fare price for the metro is €1,45 or it’s €6,30 for a 24-hour, all-access pass to metros and buses within the city limits.

Bus from Lisbon Airport to Cruise Port

Several public buses also stop at the airport terminal. The on-board pay fare is €1,80 per person for a single journey and the buses transport you into the city centre.

From here, trams, buses, hop on/off sightseeing tours (which stop in front of each port terminal) and metro services operate to Lisbon cruise port terminals. The same journeys can also be taken if travelling in the reverse, from Lisbon cruise port to airport.
