How to Get from Airport to Civitavecchia Cruise Port

Civitavecchia cruise port, also known as “Port of Rome”, is located in the city of Civitavecchia, 70 kilometres northwest of the Italian capital.

There are two airports serving the port - Rome Fiumicino (FCO) and Rome Ciampino (CIA), which both offer different modes of transportation, allowing you to arrive at the cruise port with ease and within budget.

Where is The Cruise Port in Civitavecchia

Rome Civitavecchia port can be accessed via the SS1 route and E840 along the city’s seafront. It’s a short distance from the train station, Michelangelo’s Fort and the Cathedral of St. Francis of Assisi.

The distance from Rome Fiumicino airport to Civitavecchia port is 50 kilometres. It’s the nearest airport with daily flights arriving and departing and good transport links.

Rome Ciampino airport to Civitavecchia port is 85 kilometres away from the port. This airport often caters to low-cost airlines arriving from Europe.

Transportation from Airport to Civitavecchia Cruise Port

Taxis from Fiumicino Airport to Civitavecchia cruise port are priced at between €120-150 and the travelling time is around 45-50 minutes.

If you’re travelling to Civitavecchia port from Rome Ciampino Airport, the cost of a taxi can be upwards of €180 each way.

Bus from Airport to Cruise Port

There are no direct buses from Fiumicino Airport to Civitavecchia cruise port. You can, however, travel by bus from Fiumicino airport to Roma Termini train station. The cost is €5 one way if tickets are purchased in advance, and the journey time is 60 minutes. You can hop on a direct train to Civitavecchia at Roma Termini train station.

When you arrive in Civitavecchia by train it’s relatively easy to reach the port. It’s a 15 minute walk, or public buses operate every 20 minutes to Largo della Pace - the main port entrance and vice versa to the train station.

There are also direct shuttle buses from Civitavecchia train station to cruise port. The cost of a one way ticket is €6 per person.

On arrival at the port, a free shuttle bus connects you to and from your ship with your luggage, and the buses work in tandem with arrival and departure times. The same routes can also be taken when travelling from the port to the airports.

Private Transfer Airport to Cruise Port

The cost of a private transfer one way from Rome Fiumicino Airport to Civitavecchia port for two people with luggage is approximately €150 and €105 for a shared shuttle. This is the same for any return journey.

The prices are similar from Rome Ciampino Airport to the cruise port, depending on the operator.

Train from Rome Fiumicino Airport to Civitavecchia Cruise Port

A train operates from T3 Fiumicino Airport to Roma Trastevere (FL1 train line) in central Rome. Here you can change trains for Civitavecchia - (FL5 train line). The cost is less than €13 in total, and the journey time ranges between one hour and 45 minutes to two hours.

It’s also possible to disembark at Roma Ostiense Station to change trains for an onward journey to Civitavecchia. Children under 12 travel free.

Train from Rome Ciampino Airport to Civitavecchia Port

If arriving in Rome Ciampino, a shuttle bus service ATRAL connects the airport to Ciampino train station in around five minutes. This journey costs €1,20 one way. From here, hop on a train to Roma Termini (FL4 line). The trains depart every 15 minutes, and the ticket price is just €1,50 each way.

From Termini station, the train to Civitavecchia (FL5 line) takes between 45 minutes and 1 hour 15 minutes depending on which train you board. Costs range from €5 for the slowest train to €15 for the high speed option. The same routes apply for a return journey from Civitavecchia port to the airport.
